In fact, when he came to take our order, he used an 8X11 white lined pad and asked us for our entree order. When Ron, the Manager took over to be the server, he didn't smile or greet us. the lovely young girl who took our drink order was clearly inexperienced and was even unfamiliar with gin and tonic and it took some time for her to take the drink orders.Ģ. I went out to request if we could have some water and put in our drink orders.ġ. More than 10 minutes after being seated that still did not get any water or menus. We were treated as if we were a bother! From the minute we arrived and were seated in the Chaplin Room as we requested the staff seemed annoyed, we were there. We had been before and had such a wonderful experience, we raved about it and invited others to join the lunch. HOWEVER, we reserved a table for lunch to celebrate my mother's 97th birthday. It is expensive for the average person, but if you want to treat your significant other to a bucket list of staying at a Castle, this is the place. The restaurant is unbelievable with the quality of food they have - I am entering a separate review on that. The tour is great because it gives you some great history with many people that you have heard of before but did not know were a part of the Okeka lagacy. We had a great time there and really got to relax. The bed and cushions were very comfortable and we slept quite deeply. A bit disappointed there was no small refrigerator in the room, for the price they charge, but it was a very large room with modern bathroom and a great view. The furniture is solid antique wood that you cannot find anywhere else, the high ceilings exquisite, and all the comforts of modern life such as the sprinklers, smoke/fire detectors, elevator, etc. There is a hallway with photos of the history of the Castle and a "Chaplin Room" with a plethora of Charlie Chaplin memorabilia. They have a small gym, but other than that, there's just food at the restaurant. There is really not much at all to do there, no real activities, so it was a huge difference for us to just relax and catch up on sleep and relaxation. We spent 3 days / 2 nights in the Whitney room for our Anniversary. However, it was far too cold to explore the outdoors in serious depth. I did walk around the outdoor gardens and I did see a tennis court, an indoor pool, and many gardens. There were many photograph opportunities inside and outside. My tour had approximately twenty (20) people and all of them wore masks and were polite. ![]() This history was interesting, but I wished that more of this history was explained to us while we were regarding more of the house instead of while we were being stationery. ![]() I felt that we spent too much time in the library whereby we heard about the history. The front stairway is also amazing! One can even see the waterfront in the distance. I was able to see the library, the dining rooms, a guest suite, and I enjoyed the many nice views of the gardens. The docent was nice and she was very informative. There was a restaurant, but I did not eat there. There was plenty of room to park either on one’s own or by valet. This was an enormous mansion! The tour cost about twenty-five dollars (twenty-five dollars) and it lasted about an hour.
